The Domain Migration Project

When a domain migration is due to take place with no SEO measures in place, this is crazy – what you’re effetively doing by changing over from example.com to expl.com for example, would be removing your main keyword “example” from the domain and changing the entire topical authority of the website. That DR that you’ve spent time optimising and pushing to allow you to rank for more competitve keywords, is at risk. All of this can mean traffic outages and severe damage to a website’s organic traffic.

We carefully designed a strategy for this fast food brand that would ensure a smooth transition. This project included outreach to high-quality referring domains, pre-migration steps, consistent keyword monitoring, technical SEO advice for developers and more, it wasn’t a light project, but all extremely neccesary considering the revenue from organic search was on the line. We are happy to report this domain migration was a success, the DR of the new domain is now almost exactly matching the historic domain, keyword numbers are now strong, with no traffic outages. As one domain’s keywords drop off, we measure how the new domain’s keywords rise. It’s a delicate process!
